TŘEBEŠICE

title: IN THE CASTEL AND IN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Room inside a house that serves as a bedroom and dining room for seven assistant workers who work in Třebešice castle. I hang an old-fashioned lustre that seemed to me as if trying to impress one as something better than it actually was. I invited all of the seven workers to come to the castle and took pictures of them as they were sleeping in the castle beds. Afterwards, I placed each framed photograph above every one of their beds in the house they actually occuppy. I used the space which “belongs” to them and their own housing style. I only supplied the pictures and the lustre. I used the workers themselves to create a fiction exploring their own dreams and everydayness.

Title: ON A BED SHEET

workshop castel Trebesice, 2007
I tied up five bed sheets together and let it hang from a castle window where I was staying. The sheets are a symbol bringing back the fairy-tale aspect to the castle which is now in service of contemporary art. My aim wasn’t an escape from the castle; on the contrary, I wanted to climb up to reach rooms that would be otherwise inaccessible. I fastened the sheets on a thin pole put up visibly among the windows. The hanging sheets are evidence of a specific kind of communication, which may have taken place.
